Who are we?

The Rural Doctors Workforce Agency (RDWA) is a non-profit organisation, funded by the Australian and State Governments and assists in “obtaining, keeping and skilling” the rural medical workforce in South Australia.

The Rural Doctors Workforce Agency’s vision is to build high quality medical services in partnership with rural and remote communities. To achieve this, the Agency has adopted the following strategies:
• To recruit and sustain a high quality rural and remote medical workforce
• To lead innovative research and workforce planning that will inform and guide the next generation of rural medical practice
• To promote and facilitate vibrant and resilient models of health care in partnership with rural and remote communities


Strategic Plan
The Rural Doctors Workforce Agency’s vision is to build high quality medical services in partnership with rural and remote communities. The strategic plan sets an exciting and challenging course for the Agency in 2007-2011.

Together with the above strategies, the Agency delivers the following functions:
• Promoting rural general practice as a positive career choice
• Providing expert recruitment advisory services (for rural General Practitioners (GP) and visiting medical specialists)
• Operating a Business and Development Unit to support rural GPs and their practice
• Providing services and programs for rural medical families
• Providing a GP Locum service
• Collection and management of rural workforce data
• Funding clinical skills courses for rural medical practitioners, rural Locums and medical students
• Providing financial incentives for rural medical practitioners and their families
• Research in and development of solutions to a range of rural medical workforce issues
