Bringing Cultures Together Field Trip

The Bringing Cultures Together Field Trip run by Spencer Gulf Rural Health School provides South Australian nursing, allied health and medical students a unique opportunity to experience a field trip to Aboriginal communities within the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands and Central Australia. Attendees will be invited to visit and network with Aboriginal communities in the APY Lands, participate in traditional cultural activities, tour local health facilities and camp under the stars.

The RDWA sponsors three positions on this trip.  The opportunity to take part in this event is highly valued and prestigious, and those who are awarded one of the RDWA positions become ambassadors for remote health service provision.

You are eligible to apply for an RDWA funded position for the 2012 Bringing Cultures Together Field Trip if you:

  • study nursing, allied health or medicine
  • are a member of your rural health club (AURHA, FURHS or ROUSTAH)
  • haven't participated in this program before

One student per rural health club will be selected. As a successful applicant, you will need to make your own way to and from Port Augusta and to cover your incidental expenses. You will also be asked to submit a short report (approx 500 words) and photos of the trip to the RDWA upon return to Adelaide. Successful applicants may be asked to take part in promotional activities within the rural health clubs and the RDWA.

Where and When

The trip is held in the locations of: Port Augusta, Marla, Kaltjiti (Fregon), other communities in the APY Lands, Coober Pedy.

The dates for the trip are 11-16 April 2012.
