Doctor Vacancies

Five Year Program

In Australia, International Medical Graduates (IMGs) are restricted from accessing Medicare payments unless they are working in areas that are Districts of Workforce Shortage (DWS).  These restrictions are in effect for up to 10 years, and this is known as the Ten Year Moratorium.

The Five Year Program is an Australian Government initiative that provides the opportunity for IMGs who work in eligible towns and who achieve Fellowship with either the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners or Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and who are granted permanent residency to reduce the number of years of the Moratorium.

The RDWA will work with you during your recruitment to inform you about the Program and provide specific information that will take into consideration your individual circumstances or you can get further information on the DoctorConnect website.
