The Practice
The Medical Clinic Millicent has a strong patient focus in delivering primary and secondary care to their patients. Although the doctors are expected to diagnose and treat patients independently, the practice values a teamwork approach and often shares the care of complex patients. An important part of primary and secondary care in a small country town is to have an understanding of the limitations of resources and when to hand patient care over to units that are better resourced.
Currently there are 11 doctors working at The Medical Clinic Millicent and they operate a group practice with 5 partners and a variable number of contractors. All doctors at the practice value the mutually supportive working environment that they have created over many years. There is a strong emphasis on excellent clinical care and a high standard of practice and the practice has been recognised by the Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) as one of the top 20 practices in Australia.
The practice has full time nursing support. This includes triage, mental health nurse, chronic disease, dressings, immunisations, spirometry, ECG’s, ABPI’s etc.
Doctors are provided with a personal assistant to manage their workload in terms of patient bookings and patient requests. Medical Director software is used and there is a dedicated IT support person on site.
The practice incorporates all areas of general health including Counselling, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Geriatrics, Mental Health, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Palliative Health, Population Health, Radiography and Sports Medicine.
The Doctor will be required to work 4 days per week. Consulting times are from Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm. Saturday morning consults are from 9:00am to 11:00am, according to a rotating roster.
All full time doctors share equally in the on-call roster. The frequency of on-call depends of the number of doctors working at the clinic at the time. On average it amounts to 3-4 weekends, 8 weekdays on-call and 8 weekday 2
Leave arrangements are negotiated on an individual basis but typical arrangements include 4-5 weeks of annual leave.
