The Vacancy
Tanunda Medical Practice is currently recruiting for a full time GP. The vacancy has arisen due to continued expansion of the practice and population growth in the area.

Assistant with view to partnership (full or part time). During assistanship, a generous package percentage of earnings with minimum weekly payment will be paid. The term of assistantship will be the minimum required to determine mutual compatibility for example three or six months. |
The Practice
The Tanunda Medical Practice has five partners, as well as one assistant and two GP registrars of which, three provide Obstetrics services including deliveries. There are three GP anaesthetists and two GPs who provide surgical services. There is a practice manager and administrative staff and nurses. Special interests within the practice are Skin Cancer diagnosis (including computerised dermoscopy) and treatment, travel medicine (WHO accredited Yellow Fever Centre), Women's Health and Methadone program.
The practice has a strong teamwork ethos between doctors, nurses and support staff, with holistic service provision by a mix of GP proceduralists and office style GPs.
The vision of the practice is to provide high quality comprehensive general practice services. We aim to provide the time necessary to properly explore and deal with problems and to provide continuing care.
There are four practice nurses who assist with triage, emergency assessment and care, as well as wound care, venepuncture, ECGs and spirometry. They are also involved with care planning and preventative health. There is a mental health nurse who assists with mental health assessment plans and care.
The main services provided by the practice are Counselling, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Geriatrics, Mental Health, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Palliative Health, Radiography, and Sports Medicine. The procedural services provided are Anaesthetics, Surgery and Obstetrics.
The clinic hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm and Saturday 8.30am to 11.00am.
The practice provides inpatient and outpatient services to Barossa Area Health Service (Tanunda and Angaston Hospitals) as well as afterhours cover which is shared with a neighbouring practice.
There is an after hours on call roster shared between six doctors at the practice and six doctors from the Nuriootpa Medical Centre - this means approximately a 1 in 12 roster. With a new recruit who wishes to do afterhours work, this will be 1 in 14. The obstetrics roster is covered by three doctors and there are cooperative arrangements with five other doctors in Barossa Area Health Service.
The partners take six weeks annual leave and two weeks study leave per year.

Tanunda, with a population of approximately 4,500 people ia located approximately 70km north of Adelaide, taking about an hour travel by car from Adelaide via the Northern Expressway. It is an internationally recognised community and a premier wine region.
Wine is the main source industry with agriculture and tourism as support industries. A range of professional employment opportunities exist.
Tanunda Hospital has 23 beds with a baby friendly obstetrics unit. There are two similar sized medical practices in Nuriootpa and Angaston. They have visiting specialists in general surgery, orthopaedics; gastroenterology and gynaecology consult and operate. The following services are also offered: physiotherapy, podiatry, audiology, and counselling.
School facilities in Tanunda include public and private primary schools and secondary schools. There are also high quality preschools and childcare options available.
There are a wide range of sports for example tennis, netball, football, cricket, golf and an aquatic and fitness centre.
Places of interest are the River Murray, boat fishing and surf beaches are two hours away.
