The Vacancy
Yorketown Medical Centre is seeking to recruit one full-time GP, due to the impending retirement of the current doctor and the Practice increasing in size, requiring more medical services.

The Practice
Yorketown Medical Practice is staffed by two GPs, who are both procedural in surgery, anaesthetics and obstetrics. Orthopaedics, cardiology and radiology are of particular interest to one of the doctors. Also of interest are emergency medicine, inpatient care, surgery, anaesthetics and the general range of medical practice required in rural areas.
The Practice is co-located with the Yorketown Hospital. A stand alone acute facility of 28 beds, shared with the Minlaton district 30kms away. Doctors from the Practice also visit a nursing home which is situated in Minlaton and is also the site for the Domiciliary Care for the Southern region of the Yorke Peninsula. There are two physiotherapists in Yorketown and Domiciliary Care also employs a physiotherapist for aged care and inpatient services.
The culture of the Practice is relatively informal and flexible and the vision for the Practice in regard to the provision of health care services is holistic care. The main services provided by the Practice include dermatology, emergency medicine, geriatrics, mental health, orthopaedics, paediatrics, palliative health, radiography, sports medicine, anaesthetics, surgery and obstetric shared care as deliveries have now ceased at Yorketown due to lack of midwives.
Practice staff includes administrative roles, reception some practice management, and a part time practice nurse. Mental health worker visits the practice weekly
The current Practice opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm and Saturday, 8.30am to 11.30am.
The Practice has an on-call roster for the Practice and the hospital, which is shared equally between the two current doctors and a trainee registrar (if present).
Leave entitlements are by arrangement, 4 weeks paid leave is standard.
Discover Yorketown

Yorketown has a population of about 800 people and is situated 240km from Adelaide. The Practice covers a standing population of about 4,000 people, which increases considerably to around 15,000 during holidays and peak times of Easter and Christmas.
The main sources of industry in the region include farming, fishing, tourism, local Government and local health service.
There is a local public school in Yorketown catering for years 1 to 12 and a Josephite Convent School in Yorketown for years 1 to 7. Childcare facilities are also available, but these are by arrangement from several accredited providers in the town, and in surrounding towns.
All of the mainstream sports are represented; football, netball, tennis, cricket, hockey, basketball, sailing, surfing and fishing. Other clubs and mainstream religious groups also represented.
Places of interest nearby include 200km of coastline varying from shallow water beaches to 100m cliffs and anything in between. All of the local coastal townships have boat ramps and there are several natural boat ramps in more isolated areas.
