Bringing Cultures Together Field Trip
What is it?
A week long trip to introduce participants to traditional and contemporary Aboriginal lifestyle, land, culture and knowledge in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands. The field trip is offered by the Spencer Gulf Rural Health School. The Rural Doctors Workforce Agency offers four medical students the opportunity to participate in this event.
Where is it?
Port Augusta, Marla, Kaltjiti (Fregon), other communities in the APY Lands, Coober Pedy.
When is it?
August 30 to September 4 2010.
Who can apply?
Rural club members studying medicine at the University of Adelaide or Flinders University (2 students per club). Students who have previously attended this trip are not eligible for RDWA sponsorship. The selected applicants will be expected to submit a report (approx 500 words) and photos of their trip to their rural club for publication in the club newsletter. The report and photos must also be made available to the RDWA.
How to register
Registrations for the 2010 trip have closed.
How much?
The RDWA will fund the trip fee (approx. $1800.00 per student), with each student expected to make their own way to and from Port Augusta and to pay for their own incidentals. All other meals, accommodation and travel during the week is funded by the RDWA.
