The Department of Health and Aged Care published the Pre-Fellowship Program Guidelines on 2 April 2024.

These are accessible here.

Rural Workforce Agencies will be administering the Program in each state and territory. RWAs are seeking clarification on some administrative matters and will open applications soon.

If you are ready, or almost ready to submit an application, please contact our Recruitment team to be placed on the waiting list to be sent an application form when applications open.

MDRAP and Pre-Fellowship Program in 2024 – update on 19 March 2024

Applications for the More Doctors for Rural Australia Program are now closed.

Doctors will be able to apply for a placement on the Pre-Fellowship Program (PFP) in the coming weeks once the Department of Health and Aged Care has released the new program.

This will not affect doctors who already have an MDRAP placement.

If you would like to talk about your situation, please contact our Recruitment team – details below.

– update on 4 March 2024

In the 2023-24 Budget the Australian Government decided to replace the More Doctors for Rural Australia Program (MDRAP) with a Pre-Fellowship Program (PFP).

The PFP will also support doctors working in areas of service access need who are seeking to move into fellowship training. The Department has advised that the two-year trial of the PFP is planned to start in April 2024.

New (complete) applications for the MDRAP must be received by RDWA by no later than Friday 15 March 2024.

RDWA strongly recommends that potential applicants contact RDWA as soon as possible to discuss what a ‘complete’ MDRAP application requires.

The Department of Health and Aged Care has advised it will provide more information on the PFP in coming weeks.

More Doctors for Rural Australia Program (MDRAP) provides access to general practice jobs in rural locations for non-vocationally recognised (non-VR) doctors before joining a specialist general practice fellowship program.

RDWA manages MDRAP in South Australia.
