Port Lincoln GP Obstetrics Clinical Skills Weekend

A weekend experience of rural medicine alongside a GP proceduralist on SA’s Eyre Peninsula.

Are you a final year medical student about to submit your Intern application? Have you wondered about a career in rural medicine? Perhaps, you’d like to be a rural proceduralist but you’re not sure what that looks like in a country community.

About the Program

The GP Obstetrics Clinical Skills Weekend is a fantastic opportunity for you to get a taste of rural procedural medicine before making your intern selections. You’ll see elements of rural general practice and obstetric care at one of our Road to Rural Intern training practice locations and have a chance to spend time with the local GP Proceduralists.

If you’d like to visit a rural community, experience the lifestyle and see the array of career opportunities that could soon be available to you, this is an opportunity you don’t want to miss.

This fully funded experience is provided by the RDWA and includes:

  • access to local GPs who will facilitate an interactive program that includes presentations on obstetrics in a rural setting, clinical skills sessions and an introduction to the services provided by the region’s hospital.
  • return travel to Port Lincoln, including all meals and overnight accommodation
  • time to explore the community, and dinner on the Saturday night to network with fellow students, rural GPs, and GP registrars.

Final year students of Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (University of Adelaide) and Doctor of Medicine (Flinders University) are eligible to apply for this experience.

Applications are now closed.

The GP Obstetrics Skills Weekend is happening on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 April 2022.
