CPD Subsidy for GPs and Specialists

The RDWA’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) subsidy provides funding to subsidise the costs resident rural GPs and Specialists incur when travelling to access CPD. The subsidy is scaled according to location.

The CPD subsidy aims to assist GPs and Specialists to access knowledge and education to remain contemporary in their rural practice. The RDWA provides payment in accordance with available funding.

Apply for CPD Subsidy

To apply for a CPD subsidy, GPs and Specialists must be:

  • resident and practising in private general practice in rural SA (ASGC-RA 2-5)
  • for Specialists, working in private practice and not receiving State Government Salaried Specialist professional development entitlements.

GP Registrars receive education and support from the regional training provider and do not qualify for a RDWA CPD subsidy.

Eligible activities are those that are endorsed or accredited by:

  • the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Quality Improvement and CPD Program; or
  • the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medline (ACRRM) Professional Development Program; or
  • the relevant Specialist College.

Fellowship Exam or Fellowship Preparation Courses are not eligible for the subsidy. Conference tours and conference meals are not eligible expenses.

The RDWA’s CPD subsidy is not paid for course fees where a GP is eligible to claim the GP Procedural Grant. Travel expenses will be considered within available funding.

Travel can include return economy air fare or reimbursement for kilometres travelled by car by the most direct route. Travel subsidy for private vehicle travel is paid at 76 cents per kilometre. Parking, taxi charges and car hire are not eligible expenses.

Accommodation subsidy is at the rate of up to $125 per night.

Itemised receipts for each eligible expense and a certificate of attendance (photocopies are accepted) should be attached to the claim form.

Subsidies are paid within funding available each financial year. The RDWA asks GPs to submit request for subsidy within 30 days of the event, and no later than 14 days after the end of the financial year.
