A remarkable adventure in the scenic Flinders Ranges for experienced GP

A full time VR GP position is now available in Booleroo, a thriving farming community in the picturesque southern Flinders Ranges. Just a short 2 hour drive from the Adelaide CBD, the region surrounding Booleroo is a patchwork of farmland and untouched outback ready for exploration.  With a welcoming community, wide open plains, nearby mountain ranges and breathtaking gorges, could this outback adventure be calling your name? 

Booleroo is a Distribution Priority Area and a location that is included in the Five-Year OTD Scheme. Booleroo is supported by the SAVES virtual emergency service network through the local public hospital. 

The Role

This diverse role provides high quality community-based healthcare services to the residents of Booleroo, and the surrounding communities of Melrose, Wilmington and Wirrabara. Providing services to the Booleroo Hospital, you can practise a broad scope of medicine. 

The Booleroo Medical Centre is an accredited teaching practice, providing you with the opportunity to supervise 6th year (or equivalent) medical students. 

Standard work hours include 10 sessions per week during consulting hours, Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 4.30pm.  

This position provides on-call medical services to the Booleroo Hospital for emergency presentations after hours 

Essential Criteria

  • Vocationally Recognised 
  • MBBS or equivalent  
  • Minimum four (4) years of recent General Practice experience  
  • Current emergency medicine experience 
  • Able to obtain credentials as a General Practitioner in the clinical domain of GP Medicine (emergency medicine) 

A postgraduate qualification relevant to general practice (e.g. Diploma of Child Health, RERN qualified) is desirable, but not essential. 

The Practice

The Booleroo Medical Centre provides high quality health care to approximately 3,000 patients from the local community and surrounding areas. Supported by an experienced team of practice staff, the practice hosts a range of visiting allied health professionals, including:  

  • physiotherapist 
  • speech pathologist 
  • podiatrist 
  • dietician  
  • diabetic educator 

The Booleroo Centre District Hospital is located on site with the practice and is supported by SAVES (South Australian Virtual Emergency Service) providing support for after hours presentations 

The 20 bed multipurpose hospital includes facilities for: 

  • acute medical 
  • aged care 
  • post-surgical 
  • transitional care 
  • palliative care 
  • basic radiography with digital processor 
  • ultrasound 
  • point of care testing 
  • 24 hour accident and emergency 
  • outpatients

  • DPA

From hiking and mountain biking in nearby Flinders Ranges to golf or swimming in Booleroo township itself, there is something for everyone. The Booleroo Centre District School caters to students from Reception to Year 12, with child care available for pre-school aged children
