Flexible GP vacancy in spectacular coastal township

A full time VR GP position is now available in Ceduna working alongside the resident VR GPs to serve the local fishing, farming and surfing community on the stunning western coast of the Eyre Peninsula.

Ceduna is a Distribution Priority Area and a location that is included in the Five-Year OTD Scheme.

The Role

As an independent practitioner you will manage your own patients, as well as providing medical services to the fully equipped and modern Ceduna Hospital, giving you the opportunity to practise a wide range of medicine, which can also include procedural obstetrics and/or anaesthetics for suitably qualified GPs. 

The Ceduna Family Medical Practice is an accredited teaching practice, providing you with the opportunity to supervise medical students from time to time.

Standard work hours for consultations are Monday to Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm, with rounds at the Hospital 8:30am – 9am each morning.

Emergency and after hours on call services to the Ceduna Hospital is shared with the team. The shared roster is usually 1 in 3 days per week and 1 in 3 weekends per month.

GPs in Ceduna can use the SAVES virtual emergency service to support triage level 3, 4 and 5 presentations.

A furnished house is offered as part of the package.

Essential Criteria

  • Vocationally Registered
  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Emergency medicine skill and experience.
  • Ability to gain credentials as a General Practitioner in the clinical domain of GP Medicine (emergency medicine) for the Ceduna Hospital.
  • Cultural competence working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People

Supported by a great practice team, you will enjoy the modern facility which attracts a full range of visiting specialist and allied health services, including:

  • Ear, Nose and Throat specialists.

Recently redeveloped, the fully equipped 35 bed hospital provides general medical and surgical services, Obstetrics, Accident and Emergency (A&E) and Dialysis. Acute Mental Health services are provided through the A&E service and ongoing management through Community Health Mental Health Team.

The Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service, Yadu Health, is co-located with the Hospital and employs one GP who participates in the hospital on-call roster.

Ceduna is serviced by two (2) schools, and a Kindergarten and Childcare centre. Ceduna Area School takes students from Reception to Year 12, while Crossways Lutheran School is a private school facility that caters to students from Early Learning to Year 10.
