Embrace the wide tree lined streets and vast open skies of the mid North

This full time position for a VR or General Registration GP with Australian GP experience provides medical services to the friendly agricultural communities of Jamestown, Orroroo and Peterborough and could be your chance to experience life under the vast, open skies of the mid North.

Each of these 3 locations are Distribution Priority Areas and are locations included in the Five Year OTD Scheme.  Each location can use the SAVES virtual emergency service to support triage level 3, 4 and 5 presentations.

The Role

Based in Jamestown, this exciting role includes travel to provide care in Goyder’s Line Medical’s practices in the communities of Orroroo and Peterborough and the local hospitals, giving you the opportunity to truly explore the region and get to know the surrounding communities.

Adding even more diversity to your day to day practise, you may also have the opportunity to supervise registrars and medical students in this accredited training practice.

Standard work hours include up to 10 sessions per week during consulting hours, Monday to Friday, 10am – 5pm.  

As an essential member of this rural team of VR GPs this position provides on-call medical services to the local Hospitals for emergency presentation after hours as part of a shared on call roster.

Essential Criteria

  • Vocationally Registered or General Registration with Australian GP experience
  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Current emergency medicine experience
  • Able to obtain credentials as a General Practitioner in the clinical domain of GP Medicine (emergency medicine).

A postgraduate qualification relevant to general practice (e.g. Diploma of Child Health, Diploma in Obstetrics) is desirable, but not essential.

Supported by an experienced team, including practice nurses and administrative staff, the practice services the local township and surrounding communities. You will benefit from a host of visiting specialist and allied health services, including:

  • General Surgeon
  • Colorectal Surgeon
  • Orthopaedic Surgeon
  • Cardiologist
  • Plastic Surgeon
  • Gynaecologist

With the opportunity to use the SA Virtual Emergency Service (SAVES), you will have an extensive network of professional support around you.

The Jamestown Hospital has recently been refurbished, and offers a wide range of services including:

  • 24 hour Accident and emergency
  • diagnostic radiology/xray/CT/fluoroscopy
  • gastroenterology
  • gynaecology
  • maternity and obstetrics
  • nurse lead clinics
  • obstetrics
  • ophthalmology
  • palliative care
  • plastic and reconstructive surgery
  • respite care
  • residential aged care
  • surgery – general.

The birthplace of RM Williams and home to a prosperous farming community in the state’s mid North, Jamestown is a quiet rural hub with wide tree lined streets and vast open skies.

A convenient location for anyone with a love of the outdoors, the local area offers a range of activities from hiking and mountain biking in nearby Bundaleer Forest and the stunning natural landscapes of Appila Springs to enjoying the community facilities in Jamestown township itself, such as the local swimming pool or gym.  With a well equipped library and plenty of community activities in this township steeped in local history, there is something for everyone.

The neighbouring township of Peterborough is located 30 minutes from Jamestown, and Orroroo is less than 45 minutes away.

Each of the 3 locations has an Area School and a selection of private schools providing quality education to students from reception to year 12. Child Care is available for pre-school aged children.
