Live and work in the heart of the Eyre Peninsula

The Eyre and Far North Local Health Network owns and operates the Mid Eyre Medical Practice, to ensure that primary health care, hospital and aged care services are provided to the communities of Cleve, Kimba, Cowell and Elliston. All of these locations are Distribution Priority Areas, and all locations are included in the Five-Year OTD Scheme.

Mid Eyre Medical is looking for 2 full time VR or non-VR GP’s, who are passionate about rural healthcare, to join their team.

This is an opportunity to sink your teeth into rural healthcare, joining a dynamic team which is working to improve access to healthcare for South Australia’s rural communities.

The Role

As an essential member of this rural team, you will provide primary health care in Mid Eyre Medical’s practices in the communities of Cleve, Kimba, Cowell and Elliston, in addition to providing medical services at the local hospitals on a rostered basis.

Standard work hours include up to 10 sessions per week during consulting hours, Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm and a 1:4 roster providing emergency afterhours service to the local hospitals.

GPs in these towns can use the SAVES virtual emergency service to support triage level 3, 4 and 5 presentations, providing a work-life balance and the ability to ‘switch off’ when needed.

Essential Criteria

  • Eligible for medical registration with AHPRA
  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Current emergency medicine experience, or willingness to upskill
  • Able to obtain credentials as a General Practitioner in the clinical domain of GP Medicine (emergency medicine).

Vocational Registration is desirable, but not essential.

Knowledge of General Practice in rural remote areas and a postgraduate qualification relevant to general practice (e.g. Diploma of Child Health, Diploma in Obstetrics) is desirable, but not essential.

Supported by an experienced local team, including practice nurses and administrative staff, you will benefit from a host of visiting specialist and allied health providers, including:

  • Paediatrician
  • Optometrist

With good medical colleague support in nearby towns and the opportunity to use the SA Virtual Emergency Service (SAVES), you will have a strong and collegial network of professional support around you.

The district is a prosperous farming community and a service hub for travel, stretching between the East and West coasts of the Eyre Peninsula.

At the foot of the Gawler Ranges and a short drive to many of the Eyre Peninsula’s pristine beaches, the district is a convenient location for anyone with a love of outdoor adventures.

Each of the 4 locations has an Area School providing an interactive and quality education to students from reception to year 12.
