Make an impact with this VR GP role on the Limestone Coast

Pangula Mannamurna are seeking a full-time Vocationally Registered GP to join their team in Mount Gambier, South Australia’s second largest city in the stunning Limestone Coast. The practice provides monthly outreach clinics to Millicent, Kingston, Naracoorte and Bordertown, giving you the opportunity to get to know each of the widespread communities serviced by the clinic.

The Role

In this full time role you will have the ability to practise a wide range medicine at the practice in Mount Gambier and in the greater Limestone Coast region.

Supported by an experienced and supportive team you will enjoy the diversity in providing care for complex and challenging clinical cases and using a wide range of clinical skills and expertise. Your scope of practice will include:

  • Managing undifferentiated acute and chronic health problems across the patient’s lifespan in an un-referred patient population.
  • Preventing illness and chronic disease through screening, immunisation and health education.
  • Managing clients with chronic conditions including the development and follow-up of MDS care plans with the primary health care team.

Standard consulting hours are Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm. Some out of hours work may be required.

Essential Criteria

  • Vocationally Registered
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Current emergency medicine experience
  • Ability to gain credentials as a General Practitioner in the clinical domain of GP Medicine (emergency medicine)
  • Current mandatory Reporting Certification
  • Satisfactory completion of a Child related employment screening 
  • Cultural competence working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People

A postgraduate qualification relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Public Health and general practice (e.g. Diploma of Child Health) is desirable, but not essential. 

The Practice

Pangula Mannamurna is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service located in Mount Gambier that provides comprehensive primary health care services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across the Limestone Coast region. 

The clinic is committed to providing culturally appropriate primary health care and health promotion programs for the Aboriginal community in the South East and Limestone Coast. The practice provides monthly outreach clinics to Millicent, Kingston, Naracoorte and Bordertown.  

Pangula Mannamurna has a supportive team of Aboriginal Health Practitioners & Workers, Registered Nurses and Midwives. Visiting Specialists include an Optometrist, Audiologist and Endocrinologist.

Numerous specialists are available locally in Mt Gambier including Gynaecologists, General Surgeons, Physicians, Ophthalmologists, Orthopaedic Surgeons, ENT, Renal Physician and Respiratory Physician.

Recently redeveloped, the fully equipped hospital provides general medical and surgical services, Obstetrics, Accident and Emergency (A&E) and Dialysis. Acute Mental Health services are provided through the A&E service and ongoing management through Community Health Mental Health Team.

Located in south eastern South Australia, Mount Gambier is the largest city in rural South Australia and has a population of approximately 26,000.

Local industry ranges from primary industries, such as timber and forestry, wineries, agriculture, fishing and transport. Local attractions include the Blue Lake, the famous Coonawarra wine region, seaside towns of Port MacDonnell, South End, Robe and Beachport and the popular Glenelg River. The city has a thriving retail centre and enjoys a vibrant social atmosphere with cinemas, theatres, local events and festivals and a multitude of sporting complexes.

Mount Gambier is serviced by a number of private and public schools catering to students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Mount Gambier is also home to the James Morrison Jazz Academy, an internationally recognised education space; UniSA Campus and the Flinders University eNVIsion Innovation Space.
