Supported by a highly experienced team, this rural family practice provides a great amount of variety. You will love the lifestyle and community in this busy coastal location.

Port Augusta is a Distribution Priority Area and is a location included in the Five Year OTD Scheme.

The Role

Based at the Port Augusta Medical Centre this full time VR GP role has a focus on Women’s health and is a great opportunity to practice the wide scope of medicine only available in rural practice.

Standard work hours include up to 10 sessions per week during consulting hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm.

The opportunity to consult on Saturdays and provide emergency on-call medical services to the Port Augusta Hospital after hours as part of a shared roster is available for an interested GP.

Essential Criteria

  • Vocationally Registered
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Ability to gain credentials as a Medical Practitioner in the clinical domain of GP Medicine
  • Cultural competence working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People

Experience in Women’s Health will be highly regarded.

Experience in emergency medicine and postgraduate qualifications relevant to general practice (e.g. Diploma of Child Health, Diploma in Obstetrics) are desirable, but not essential.

The Practice

Port Augusta Medical Centre provides high quality health care to the patients of Port Augusta, and surrounding communities. The Practice is currently staffed by 3 highly experienced full time GPs and an extensive support team including Practice Manager, practice nurses and administrative staff.

Pathology is available on site.

A full range of allied health specialists are available locally, including:

  • Podiatrist
  • Chiropractor
  • Dietitian
  • Optometrist

The Port Augusta Hospital is a large modern facility with 82 acute beds, and services the residents of Port Augusta and the surrounding communities. It provides services including:

  • 24 hour Accident & Emergency
  • 2 operating Theatres
  • Specialist consulting rooms
  • Renal dialysis
  • Radiology
  • Pathology
  • Paediatric and Neonatal
  • Obstetric and Gynaecology

Port Augusta is a large rural city located at the head of the Spencer Gulf, only a short 1 hour flight to Adelaide. Home to approximately 14,000 residents, the city is a busy retail hub with a growing focus on eco-tourism, establishing arid and outback botanic parks on its outskirts.
