A full time VR or non-VR GP position is now available in Streaky Bay. Working alongside the resident VR GP and supported by a full range of visiting specialists and experienced practice staff, this varied role is the perfect opportunity to practice patient centred care and grow your medical skills while uniquely positioned in a friendly community on Eyre Peninsula’s pristine west coast.

Streaky Bay is a Distribution Priority Area and a location that is included in the Five-Year OTD Scheme. This position is an RVTS approved training placement.

The Role

This exciting role gives you the opportunity to practise a wide range of medicine. With a focus on managing your own patients at the Streaky Bay & District Medical Clinic, you will also provide medical services to the Streaky Bay Hospital.

Standard work hours for a full time position include up to 10 sessions per week during consulting hours, Monday to Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm, and after hours on-call rostered one in two for the accident and emergency service at the Streaky Bay Hospital.

GPs in Streaky Bay can use the SAVES virtual emergency service to support triage level 3, 4 and 5 presentations.

Essential Criteria

  • Eligible for medical registration with AHPRA
  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Current emergency medicine experience, or willingness to upskill
  • Ability to gain credentials as a General Practitioner in the clinical domain of GP Medicine (emergency medicine) for the Streaky Bay Hospital.

Vocational Registration is desirable, but not essential.

Supported by a great practice team, you will enjoy the fully equipped facility which attracts a comprehensive range of visiting specialist and allied health services, including:

  • Gerontologist
  • Ophthalmologist
  • Paediatrician
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Podiatrist
  • Physiotherapist
  • Dietician
  • Speech Pathologist.

As well as providing a 24 hour Accident & Emergency service, the hospital has 10 acute care beds and 9 aged care beds for people requiring high level of care at the hospital. An additional 15 aged care beds for people requiring a low level of care are located at the Elmhaven Hostel.

Located on some of the most spectacular coastline in Australia, Streaky Bay is well known for its aquaculture, fishing and some of the best surfing in South Australia. Streaky Bay is home to a strong farming community and draws tourists year-round.

The Streaky Bay Area School has recently had an extensive upgrade and caters to students from Reception to Year 12.
