A full time VR GP position in Murray Bridge, one of South Australia’s most populous rural cities, is now available for a GP dedicated to providing high quality healthcare to rural communities.

Working alongside a large and experienced local team, this diverse role in a busy practice offers the variety in practice unavailable in metro areas.

Murray Bridge is a Distribution Priority Area and only a short drive from the Adelaide CBD.

The Role

This full time VR GP position works across both the Bridge Clinic and the Murray Bridge Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, giving you the opportunity to practise a wide range of medicine.

As an accredited training practice, you will have the ability to supervise medical students, Interns and GP Registrars.

Standard consulting hours include on average 9 sessions per week, Monday to Friday, between 8.30am – 7pm. You will be rostered on as Clinic Emergency Doctor to consult for a morning, afternoon or evening shift, approximately one day per week.

Sharing after hours on call for the accident and emergency service at the Murray Bridge Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital with a large local team, you will be rostered 1 in 14 nights on average.

Essential Criteria

• Vocationally Registered
• MBBS or equivalent
• Current Emergency Experience
• Be eligible for credentials as a General Practitioner in the clinical domain of GP Medicine (emergency medicine), for the Murray Bridge Soldiers Memorial Hospital.

Knowledge of Rural general practice, patient presentations and understanding of hospital fee for service is desirable.

A Postgraduate qualification relevant to general practice (e.g. Diploma of Child Health, Diploma in Obstetrics) is desirable, but not essential.

The Practice

Bridge Clinic provides care to the residents of Murray Bridge, a Rural City of approximately 20,000 residents, and surrounding communities. The practice has a current team of 16 GPs, supported by a full of team of experienced Registered Nurses and Practice Staff.

Located across 2 sites, the fully equipped practice boasts 28 consulting rooms, 6 nurse treatment rooms, and a dedicated ambulance emergency room and offers:

• obstetric care
• chronic disease management
• paediatric care
• anaesthetic and surgical services
• Aboriginal health clinics

Bridge Clinic has onsite pathology services (SA Pathology) at both sites and is supported by over 30 visiting medical and allied health specialists each month. 

Located only 1.3km from the practice, The Murray Bridge Soldiers Memorial Hospital is a 46 bed facility including:

• acute medical
• post-surgical
• post-natal
• transitional care
• palliative care
• radiography
• pathology
• 24 hour emergency

Located on the Murray River, the district is known for farming and tourism, with more than 1 million visitors each year.

An easily commutable distance of one-hour south-east from Adelaide, many of Murray Bridge’s activities revolve around the river where house boats, paddle-steamers, and water based activities such as skiing are enjoyed throughout the year.

Murray Bridge is home to a number of public and private schools catering to students from Reception to Year 7, as well as numerous kindergarten and child care options for pre-school aged children.
