Busy practice offering diverse medicine for full time GP in agricultural hub

A full time VR position is now available in Wudinna for a GP passionate about rural healthcare. Supported by an experienced local team, this diverse role provides the perfect opportunity to practise patient centred medicine while joining a friendly country community.

Wudinna is a Distribution Priority Area and a location that is included in the Five-Year OTD Scheme, and is supported by the SAVES virtual emergency service network through the local hospital.

The Role

This full time VR GP role works across both Wudinna Medical Practice, and the local Wudinna Hospital, giving you the opportunity to practise a wide scope of medicine.

Standard work hours include 10 sessions per week during consulting hours, Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 4.30pm.

As a member of an experienced team, this position also shares emergency on-call medical services to the Wudinna Hospital after hours.

Essential Criteria

  • Vocationally Registered
  • Current emergency medicine experience
  • Credentials as a General Practitioner in the clinical domain of GP Medicine (emergency medicine) for the Wudinna Hospital.

A postgraduate qualification relevant to general practice (e.g. Diploma of Child Health, Diploma in Obstetrics) is desirable, but not essential.

Supported by an experienced team, including one full-time GP, a practice manager, receptionist and a practice nurse, the practice hosts a range of visiting specialists and allied health practitioners including:

  • Psychiatrist
  • Cardiology
  • Endocrinology
  • Women’s health GP
  • Optometrist
  • Paediatrician
  • Physiotherapist
  • Chiropractor
  • Dietician

The practice is located a short distance from the Wudinna Hospital, a 20-bed multipurpose service hospital, which includes:

  • 24 hour emergency
  • Nursing home

Located in the heart of the Eyre Peninsula the district is best known for farming and large deposits of granite, and just a short distance to Mount Wudinna, one of Australia’s largest granite monoliths.

Hike through one of the many nearby conservation parks to view the spectacular scenery and spot some local wildlife or take a drive to an unspoiled beach with clear blue water. With something for everyone, Wudinna is an authentic taste of the Australian Outback.

Wudinna Area School provides high quality education to students from Reception to Year 12, with Wudinna RSL Memorial Kindergarten offering education for preschool aged children.
