The John Flynn Placement Program is an Australian Government Department of Health initiative designed to attract the future medical workforce into remote and rural careers through lifestyle and work experience in rural locations by arranging placements in one community for two weeks every year for four years.
Applicants submit their application directly through the JFPP website.
Every year, 300 new JFPP participants join the program, bringing the total experiencing JFPP placements to 1200 annually.
JFPP is administered by the Consortium of Rural Workforce Agencies (RWAs). As a member of the Consortium, RDWA provides support to students, local mentors, hosts and community contacts.
JFPP participants are selected from 20 universities throughout Australia. Successful applicants spend eight weeks over three to four years in a rural or remote community with a one-to-one professional mentor, community host and contact.
RDWA provides support to the SA students during their placements throughout Australia, as well as supporting students from other states who are placed in rural South Australia.
