Pre-Fellowship Program

The Pre-Fellowship Program (PFP) offers non-VR doctors invaluable experience in general practice to prepare them to apply for a Fellowship training pathway in rural South Australia. The PFP has replaced the More Doctors for Rural Australia Program.

Eligible doctors work in practices in MM2-7 locations, as well as MM1 locations with Distribution Priority Area (DPA) classification.

The program aims to:

  • help doctors gain valuable general practice experience
  • improve access to general practitioners (GPs) in Distribution Priority Areas
  • give general practices the opportunity to recruit from a pool of previously unavailable doctors.

RDWA administers the program in South Australia.

You can apply for PFP if you are an International medical graduate (IMG) or non-vocationally registered doctor who has general, provisional or limited registration and an employment offer for a practice in an eligible location. The practice must be accredited against the RACGP Standards and an accredited training practice (or working toward training accreditation).

You cannot apply if you have been on a 3GA program (including MDRAP).

For all the eligibility details please read the Guidelines.

You can see if the location has DPA status by searching the address on the Health Workforce Locator.

Please download the PFP Checklist so you can gather all the required documentation.

When you have all the documents, please use the form below to request an Application Form and instructions for submitting your application.

Our team will assess your application within 28 business days and notify you of the outcome.
