The Kanyaka Surgery is seeking to recruit a full time GP. The successful applicant will have general practice and emergency medicine experience and will provide services to the Quorn Hospital including emergency on call after hours as part of a 1:2 roster.
The surgery was refurbished in 2011 and included modifications to the existing building to provide rooms for another GP, medical students and registrars. In addition, two allied health rooms and a room for a practice nurse are available. Currently staffed by one full-time GP, 0.5 FTE GP Registrar supported by an office manager, receptionist and part time practice nurse, Kanyaka Surgery provides all the health care services to Quorn and surrounding district. Kanyaka is an accredited training practice and provides undergraduate teaching medical students.
The Kanyaka Surgery is located in the picturesque Flinders Ranges, 339km north of Adelaide. There is a population of approximately 1,230 people, and of these 48.9% were male and 51.1% were female. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people made up 11.9% of the population. The district is known for tourism, farming and as a filming location.
A main attraction in Quorn is the Pichi Richi Railway. There are also self-guided walking tours in the town, included several based around the town's historic old buildings, the railway yards and other historic locations. The Heysen Trail and the Mawson Trail, a pair of long-distance trails dedicated respectively to walking and cycling, pass through town and there are many bushwalks and four-wheel drive tracks.
