RESP Anaesthetics

Alongside RDWA’s RESP, and facilitated by long-time training partner Learn EM, the new RESP Anaesthetics offers funded emergency education to GP Proceduralists offering Anaesthetic services to any of the six Regional Local Health Networks in SA.

In partnership with Learn EM, RDWA is offering high quality, accredited education that is eligible for the procedural grant. RESP Anaesthetics includes learning outcomes that meet the continuing professional development criteria for anaphylaxis and can’t intubate, can’t oxygenate standards. (CICO) for GP Anaesthetists.

At the completion of the workshop the participant will be able to:

  • Discuss clinical features and management of Anaphylaxis in the context of anaesthesia
  • Review the criteria, communication strategies, steps in management and procedural skills for the management of a CICO scenario
  • Demonstrate competency in the procedure for managing the Difficult Airway
  • Demonstrate competency in procedures for Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support
  • Discuss the clinical assessment, structured procedure, drugs and post sedation management of a patient for procedural sedation and identify contraindications to procedural sedation.
  • Identify alternatives to procedural sedation including Biers Block, Fascia Iliaca Block
  • Describe the clinical features, risks and management strategies for obtaining a definitive airway and ventilation in the unstable patient, obese patient and patient with a difficult airway.
  • Describe the indications, contraindications and ventilator setup for non-invasive ventilation
  • Demonstrate an understanding of critical team skills, leadership, communication strategies required for resuscitation of seriously ill patient.

RESP Anaesthetics is accredited for 40 Cat 1 RACGP points and 30 PRPD + 30 points MOPS with ACCRM. The workshop meets the criteria for the Rural Procedural Grant for Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia, Surgery and Obstetrics.

If you are offered and accept a fully funded position, you will be agreeing to meet the conditions of access which includes agreeing to pay for the cost of a position, if you do not complete all requirements.  The terms of acceptance are detailed on the application form.
