RFDS and RDWA's Ride Along Program

RFDS and RDWA have been giving South Australian medical and nursing students an adventurous start to rural health experiences for more than 20 years with the Ride Along Program.

Almost 2,000 medical and nursing students have joined an RFDS service flight to truly experience rural and remote healthcare. This partnership is unique to South Australia.

Each of the South Australian universities have an allocated four month period, during which selected students can join a Saturday or Sunday service flight.

Applications are now closed.

Applications will next be open for University of Adelaide students.

There are 34 places available.

If there are more applications than places available, preference will be given to students who have not previously been on an attachment flight.

To apply, students must be:

  • Over 18 years of age
  • A first or second year student in medicine or nursing
  • A university rural health club member
  • Able to attend the compulsory orientation session at the RFDS Base
  • Available for at least two Saturdays and Sundays during the four month period allocated to your university.

The online application form will have all the privacy and information consent and applicant declarations you will need to complete.

Successful applicants must attend the compulsory orientation session at the RFDS hangar at the Adelaide Airport.

At the orientation session, RFDS will provide full details of the terms and conditions of participating in a flight. Students will need to accept these terms to participate in the flight.

Applications will next open for University of Adelaide students.
