Support for Nursing and Allied Health Professionals

The Rural Health Professionals Program (RHPP) supports Australia’s rural and remote health workforce by recruiting new Australian-trained and overseas-trained nursing and allied health professionals into rural and remote areas of Australia, and providing them appropriate support services once they commence work, in order to improve workforce retention rates.

Approved candidates are provided retention support for one year to assist them to remain practising in rural and remote South Australia.

The RHPP is funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Health and managed nationally by Rural Health Workforce Australia.

The RDWA delivers the program in South Australia.

The RDWA supports employers by offering a full recruitment service, and supports candidates throughout the recruitment phase and for the first year which can include:

  • Orientation into workplace and the community
  • Rental assistance and or housing/accommodation assistance
  • Removal and relocation costs
  • Visa and migration costs (for overseas candidates)
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) costs, including funding for mentoring and supervision
  • CPD leave relief costs
  • Financial support of accreditation and registration process (for overseas candidates)
  • Fuel costs for outreach services
